The Green Register - EB - Code For Sustainable Homes Environmental Assesments by Greenlight

Greenlight Construction carries out both standard and bespoke assessments to all sizes of projects from single dwellings to large mixed use schemes.

Assessments can be carried out to:

  • -Support planning applications
  • -Assist in achieving necessary sustainability and emissions standards
  • -Consider renewable energy and LZC (low & zero carbon) options
  • -Evaluate energy conservation measures to find the best value solutions

Greenlight construction has the experience to help you to:

  • -Achieve the required standards by good design and not throwaway cost
  • -Reduce the environmental impact of a development during both the construction stage and more importantly the lifetime of the buildings

But remember...

the level of benefits that could be achieved is in direct proportion to the timing of the engagement of Greenlight construction. Consultation at an early stage will make a significant difference.

Code For Sustainable Homes

In April 2007 the Code for Sustainable Homes replaced the EcoHomes scheme as the standard environmental rating for homes. Richard Sabin of Greenlight construction is trained and licensed to carry out both Code for Sustainable Homes and EcoHomes Assessments and will be happy to discuss your needs in this regard.

There are a number of differences between the two schemes (as well as a large number of similarities) but the fundamental difference is the inclusion of mandatory elements within the Code for Sustainable Homes.

The mandatory elements within the Code are as follows:

  • -CO2 emissions: i.e. Level 3 compliance means a minimum of 25% improvement of DER/TER with regards to current Building Regulations using SAP 2005
  • -Water consumption: Level 3 requires a maximum level of 105 litres per person per day
  • -Impact of Construction Materials: construction materials must reach certain minimum standards - this is not an onerous condition to satisfy
  • -Surface Water Run-off: some attenuation measures or other consideration must be given to the scheme
  • -Household Waste Storage Space: Adequate consideration for recycling storage etc must be made
  • -Construction Waste Site Management: A site waste management plan must be produced and implemented

The remaining credits within the Code for Sustainable Homes are then tradable (just like the old EcoHomes scheme).

More information can be found on the Code for Sustainable Homes on the DCLG website.
